bridgeAFRIC Signs Malawian gospel Artiste, Rudo Chakwera
Following the launch of bridgeAFRIC Southern Africa in Malawi earlier this year, bridgeAFRIC in collaboration with Jacobs Event has signed Malawian gospel artiste RUDO CHAKWERA as she is set to release her new project titled VICTORY.
The president of bridgeAFRIC: Victoria Nkong was recently seen in Zimbabwe alongside the CEO of Jacobs Event: Wendy Harawa and Malawi’s golden voice: Rudo Chakwera who is also the daughter in-law to the President of Malawi.
Recall that The President of bridgeAFRIC had stated during the launch that their vision is to connect artistes and creatives across the continent and ensure that their art crosses borders.
They have been spotted in the studio with some of Zimbabwe’s biggest artistes and even some American gospel artistes. it’s great to see powerful women joining forces to make a difference.
Rudo popularly known as the song bird was born to Malawi’s Iconic Jazz artist Isaac Mkukupa, she started singing as soon as she could talk. She rose to fame in Malawi’s Music Industry in 1999 when she recorded her first album featuring the famous ‘Ndine Mwana wamasiye’. A holder of a Masters in Business Administration Degree from ESAMI.
She studied Music for 4 years for her first degree at Chancellor College- one of University of Malawi’s Constituent Colleges where she majored in voice.
Rudo has performed on different platforms as a solo artist backed by her father’s 3-man outfit known as ‘Touch of Class’. Such performances include high profile performances at the SADC Heads of State Banquet hosted at the State House in Malawi-2003, the Inaugural Miss Malawi finals when it was reintroduced in the country, and many other concerts. One of Malawi’s great female vocalists, Rudo not only holds a position in Malawi’s Musicians body National Executive Committee, but has also served her country through various artistic positions as board member for the Copyright Society of Malawi and board member for Channel for All Nations radio ( one of Malawi’s well known country wide radio stations). Following the respect she commands in Malawi’s Music Industry, Ruto has been a judge for several singing competitions including the famous household talent search television shows known as ‘E- Wallet’ for several seasons. She has recorded 4 albums and is currently in the studio for her 5th album. A powerful, deep voice in Malawi music, Rudo has been branded the ‘Aretha Franklin’ of Malawi.
