In a strong show of unity and resolve, Edo leaders have come together to unequivocally denounce the recent violence that marred the state’s political landscape.

The leaders in a statement issued in Benin and signed by the spokesperson of the Edo Unity Front (EUF), Dr Pius Akugbe, urged the police and other security agents to devise counter measures that will make it impossible for the forces of despotism to carry out their sinister designs of eliminating APC chieftains in Edo State.

The statement condemned the assassination attempt on Senator Monday Okpebholo, the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate, and praised his vision for a better future for Edo State.

The statement described the violence as “unacceptable, barbaric, and a stark reminder of the desperation of those who seek to undermine our democracy.” They urged all stakeholders to embrace peace, dialogue, and civility, saying, “We must not allow violence and intimidation to prevail. We must work together to build a peaceful and prosperous Edo State, where democracy and the rule of law reign supreme.”

It praised Okpebholo’s commitment to the well-being of Edo State and its people, saying, “His vision for a prosperous and peaceful Edo State is inspiring, and we are confident that he will lead the state to greatness. His leadership will usher in a new era of progress, development, and hope for all Edo citizens.”

The leaders also commended the police for their prompt response and urged them to investigate the incident thoroughly, saying, “We call on the security agencies to leave no stone unturned in their investigation and to bring the perpetrators to justice. We must ensure that those responsible for this heinous act are held accountable.”

The leaders extended their sympathy to the family of the police officer who lost his life during the incident, saying, “We mourn the loss of a dedicated officer who paid the ultimate price while serving his state and country. May his sacrifice not be in vain.”

By condemning violence and praising Okpebholo’s vision, the leaders have sent a strong message that Edo State is ready for a new era of peace, progress, and prosperity. They have also reaffirmed their commitment to democracy, the rule of law, and the well-being of all Edo citizens.
