Niger Delta Women Call For Truce Over Crisis In Rivers State

Women wing of a development advocacy group in the Niger Delta region, Voice of Niger Delta for Equity and Justice with the International Association of World Peace advocates ( IAWPA) have called for a truce over the crisis emanating from Rivers State.

There has been a strained relationship between Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his erstwhile political godfather and former governor of the state and current Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, which has thrown the state into a political crisis.

However, the groups in a press conference in Abuja on Monday urged Rivers State Governor Fubara and Hon Minister Wike to sheathe their Sword for the interest of peace and development of the state.

In a statement jointly signed by Ambassador Susie Biboere Ogun, Ambassador Ebierebo success Motajo and Mrs Mercy Jagiri the groups explained that it will be improper as women and mothers to fold their arms and watch the political drama rear it’s ugly headhead in the State.

We deem it necessary to express our displeasure over the lingering Political quagmire going on in Rivers State.The state is noted to be a hospitable and Peace loving. But recently there had been Power tissue in the political firmament that tends to distract the tenet of democracy and good Governance in the State.

“Be it as it may, a political God father and a son might have a bickering, but could be resolved for peace to reign as supreme in the State. It is in the best of knowledge, that it will be improper as women and mothers to fold our arms and watch this political drama rear it’s ugly head.

“In the light of this we the women of Women wing of a development advocacy group in the Niger Delta region, Voice of Niger Delta for Equity and Justice with the International Association of World Peace advocates ( IAWPA) calls for a truce over the Crisis emanating from Rivers State.

“Moreso, we acknowledge the developmental stride of Hon Minister Wike as a Governor of Rivers State and presently upliftment of the Federal Capital Territory can not be over emphasised.

“Consequently, when the present Governor Sim Fubara of Rivers State in his 100 days in Office, the former President of Nigeria, Dr Goodluck Ebele Jonathan in Port Harcourt urged Governor Fubara and Hon Minister Wike to sheathe their Sword for the interest and development of the state, noting that peace is expedient.

“As we the Niger Delta women in Abuja and the Northern Nigeria in a concerted effort we are appealing to Hon Minister Wike to establish a mutual understanding with Gov Sim Fubara for peace and harmony to prevail.

“Whenever there is crisis, certain individuals takes advantage of the issues to benefit themselves, Hon Minister Wike as a father should take the son to a reclusive place to have a drink, dance and discuss this issues, so that the world can applaud them,” the statement added.

“It calls for Concern that we Women deem it necessary to express our displeasure over the lingering Political quagmire going on in Rivers State, a state noted to be hospitable and Peace loving. “Moreso, we acknowledge the developmental strides of the former governor of Rivers State when he was a governor and now Hon Minister , and presently his upliftment of the Federal Capital Territory can not be over emphasised.

“Consequently, During Governor Sim Fubara of Rivers State 100 days in Office, the former President of Nigeria, Dr Goodluck Ebele Jonathan in Port Harcourt while commissioning Projects urged Governor Fubara and Hon Minister Wike to sheathe their Sword for the interest and development of the state, noting that peace is expedient.

“We the Niger Delta women in Abuja and the Northern Nigeria in a concerted effort is appealing to Hon Minister Wike to establish a mutual understanding with Gov Sim Fubara for peace and harmony to prevail.

“We know that whenever there is crisis, certain individuals take advantage of the issues to benefit themselves and instead of looking for a solution would find the embers of discord so as to continue reaping and making profit from the situation while people are dying. fear in the land and uncertainty and confusion rules and so

“Today we are calling on the Hon Minister, Wike as a father to take the bold step and call his son to a reclusive place and discuss these issues over a drink and settle. Because the peace of the state lies in the hands of two of them, especially the Honourable Minister, and then by the grace of God, the world will applaud them for accepting peace
