Street Rumble Boxing: LASG Launches Initiative to Uncover Hidden Talents, Foster Youth Engagement

The Lagos State Government has launched the inaugural Street Rumble Boxing event, demonstrating its commitment to youth engagement and social inclusion.

This initiative, a vision of the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Sports, Damilare Orimoloye, aligns with Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s T.H.E.M.E.S agenda, which includes promoting gender equality.

Orimoloye, highlighted the event’s significance. “The Street Rumble Boxing show aims to unearth hidden talents.

“This grassroots approach to talent discovery reflects the government’s dedication to developing sports at all levels,” he added.

Orimoloye noted that boxing offers physical and mental benefits, teaches discipline, hard work, and perseverance, and provides valuable opportunities for personal growth and development.

He also argued that boxing unites and inspires people, and fosters strong bonds.

“By understanding boxing’s impact on communities, we appreciate its importance even more.”

Meanwhile, the initiative has garnered positive attention, with Orimoloye promising to make future editions “better and bigger”.

He is certain that by hosting such tournaments, the state is not only providing opportunities for aspiring boxers but also fostering community development through sports.

This initiative builds on Lagos State’s strong boxing tradition, as evidenced by the recent success of Lagos boxers at the 13th All-African Games in Accra, Ghana.

Therefore, Orimoloye is pleased that the Street Rumble Boxing event represents another step in the state’s ongoing efforts to promote sports and engage its youth population.

According to the state government, Street Rumble Boxing is an effort to give back to the community, engage the state youth in sports, enrich social development, and promote athletic achievement.

The SSA on Sports further highlighted the potential of Lagos in producing talented boxers through the Street Rumble Boxing initiative.

Orimoloye assured that the event would continue, providing opportunities for boxers to showcase their skills and compete locally and internationally.

He also mentioned plans to expand the initiative to include more sports under the refurbished bridges of Lagos, with support from key government officials.
