Talk With Marvy, the annual pitch-a-thon at the University of Lagos (UNILAG), awarded N600,000 to its 2024 winners.

The event, held at the College of Medicine, UNILAG, attracted numerous students from various departments.

Among them is Safanah Dhikrullah from Safyarncraft who won the top prize of N250,000 while the second runner-up received N100,000 and the third runner-up was awarded N50,000.

The Talk With Marvy pitch-a-thon expanded its impact by awarding N25,000 consolation prizes to other students who submitted business ideas.

Safanah Dhikrullah, the top prize winner, expressed her excitement, noting that her previous pitching experience, though unsuccessful, provided valuable lessons that contributed to her victory.

She emphasised the significance of starting early in entrepreneurship, allowing room for learning from mistakes.

Dhikrullah also acknowledged her team members’ contributions, highlighting the collaborative nature of successful ventures.

Her advice to fellow student entrepreneurs underscores the event’s goal of fostering innovation and real-world problem-solving among undergraduates.

On his part, the Convener of Talk with Marvy, Marvelous Olabisi emphasised the importance of student entrepreneurship in light of current economic challenges of the country.

He highlighted the need for students to innovate and generate income while studying. “There are students who face financial struggles. It is to avert this that we initiated the event.”

Olabisi, however, expressed plans to expand the initiative to more schools nationwide, aiming to impact a broader student base.

Meanwhile, one of the judges, Peter Odili, impressed by the pitches, awarded additional N50,000 prizes each to two businesses as encouragement.

This edition showcased the entrepreneurial spirit among students at the university.
