Agony of  Federal Roads in Edo

I must express the frustrations of Edo people over the neglect and condition of federal roads across the state, and the absence of political will to fix them over nine years of the APC- led federal government. All federal roads in Edo have collapsed. Edo 2024 governorship election is crucial to vote out APC in 2027 and the process will start from September 21 in Edo State. The ongoing protest to end bad governance in Nigeria is a protest against APC in Edo State.

The dilapidated expressways have dealt a deadly blow on the markets across Edo State, and Governor Godwin Obaseki had on several occasions engaged topnotch construction firms to do some palliative works and make the carriageways passable. Governor Obaseki administration has created an alternate road from Benin to Auchi since the federal government could not fix its roads to ensure smooth movement of goods and services across the state. Governor Obaseki wrote a letter to federal government requesting for all federal roads in Edo State to be handed over to Edo State government for rehabilitation under former President Buhari but the federal government refused.

Governor Obaseki has completed  the Sobe-Saboginda road project which today is transforming Edo’s infrastructure. Today Benin-Ekpoma-Auchi will take motorists seven hours but Benin-Sobe-Saboginda-Auchi road will take motorists less than two hours. Today construction work is being carried out by Edo State government on Benin-Abraka road which is a federal road. We know where to drop our votes in September.
