Alleged Silent Battle Between Zacch Adedeji and Bayo Adelabu

Rumours are swirling about a silent battle between Zacch Adedeji and Bayo Adelabu over their gubernatorial ambitions. While some dismiss these claims as mere speculations, others believe that only time will reveal the truth.

Adedeji is an accomplished accountant and tax administrator. He served as the Commissioner for Finance in Oyo State from 2011 to 2015 and is currently the Executive Chairman of the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), where he oversees tax collection for the federal government.

Adedeji’s academic background is impressive, with a first-class degree in Management and Accounting from Obafemi Awolowo University, a Master’s in Accounting, and an Executive Course from Harvard Kennedy School. Meanwhile, his professional journey includes roles at Procter and Gamble and contributions to the National Sugar Development Council. Thus, Adedeji’s experience in public finance and administration positions him as a formidable candidate for the governorship.

On the other side of the ring, Adelabu is a former deputy governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and the current Minister of Power. He was the APC gubernatorial candidate for Oyo State in 2019 but lost to Seyi Makinde, the incumbent governor. Adelabu’s career spans roles in PricewaterhouseCoopers, Standard Chartered Bank, and First Bank of Nigeria, so he is super experienced in all things finance and banking.

Regarding educational credentials, Adelabu also has a first-class degree in Accounting from Obafemi Awolowo University and professional courses from prestigious institutions like Harvard and Stanford. So his extensive experience in both public and private sectors strengthens his gubernatorial prospects.

Some commentators have alleged that Adedeji’s strong background in public finance and his current role at FIRS give him a strategic advantage over Adelabu. His previous tenure as Commissioner for Finance demonstrated his ability to implement effective financial reforms. All that Adelabu has going for him is his previous gubernatorial run, although this provides him with valuable political experience and name recognition.

Ultimately, these calculations are based on a rumour. If it all turns out to be true, then the next gubernatorial election will be very intriguing.
