Fayose Out of His Shell to Give Tinubu Massive Support

“Love him or hate him, both are in his favour. If you love him, he’s in your heart. If you hate him, he’s in your mind.” Oddly enough, these are Shakespeare’s words and they resonate well with Ayo Fayose’s unwavering support for President Bola Tinubu amid the looming protests in Nigeria. By this, Fayose, who is emerging from relative obscurity, has thrown his weight behind Tinubu, dismissing the protests as a potential coup.

From recent events, former Ekiti State governor, Fayose, regards the impending protests as a threat to Tinubu’s administration. He believes the protests could be hijacked and perceived as a military coup attempt. Fayose emphasises the risks involved, urging protestors to consider the broader implications of their actions.

It is the biggest surprise to some onlookers that despite the economic hardships sparking the protests, Fayose remains a staunch supporter of Tinubu. He argues that the challenges predate Tinubu’s administration and cannot be resolved overnight. According to Fayose, the protesters are politicising the issues, ignoring the complexities of governance.

Fayose’s critique extends to the socio-economic issues within Nigeria, particularly in the northern regions. In his opinion, the burden of large families is being felt on limited government resources. Therefore, many of the issues ravaging the country point to deeper systemic issues that compound the country’s economic woes, not the inability of President Tinubu.

From this, it is evident that while others worry about the financial and reputational costs of the protests, Fayose is focused on Tinubu’s ability to manage the country through its difficulties. He insists that Nigeria is a challenging country to govern and that Tinubu deserves more time, underscoring just how much unwavering loyalty and belief he has in Tinubu’s leadership.

These are strange days indeed. Despite being a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), some of the strongest supporters of President Tinubu are members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). Fayose is only the most recent among them.
