Nestlé Nigeria PLC has empowered 10 trainees with employment opportunities after they successfully completed its technical training programme. The initiative aims to address the technical skills gap in the industry, enhance youth employability, and foster the creation of new enterprises.
Speaking at the seventh graduation ceremony of the Nestlé Technical Training Centre (TTC) held recently in Agbara, Ogun State, the Managing Director and Chief Executive Director, Wassim Elhusseini explained that the trainees underwent an intensive 18-month programme which combined theoretical and practical engineering training, culminating in the City and Guilds of London Technicians’ certification, designed to improve their employability.
Elhusseini noted that over 190 young men and women have graduated from the programme, with Nestlé Nigeria employing 97 per cent of them.
He emphasised that the organisation’s investment of over N6 billion in upskilling trainees reflects its strong belief in the potential of the next generation.
“This is one of the many ways we are creating shared value,” he added.
The CEO congratulated the graduates, acknowledging their dedication and hard work over the past 18 months.
He encouraged them to stay curious, embrace lifelong learning, and face challenges with a positive mindset as they embark on the next phase of their journey. “The world is waiting for your contributions,” he stated.
Factory Human Resources Manager, Mrs. Olawunmi Adelanwa, also congratulated the graduates, encouraging them to “live the life of your dreams.”
She lauded their courage and determination in completing the rigorous programme, which included subjects such as Applied Thermodynamics and Mechanics of Solids. She recognised the vital role played by the instructors at NTTC, the City and Guilds representatives, the factory leadership team, and the graduates’ families in shaping their journey. “Your commitment has paid off and today, we celebrate your success. As you embark on the next chapter of your lives, I encourage you to continue to strive for excellence and never stop learning,” she stated
Mr. Shakiru Lawal, Country Human Resources Manager, highlighted the organisation’s commitment to this programme since 2009, noting its success in building the capacity of young people.
He urged the trainees to see their technical skills as a foundation for broader opportunities, encouraging them to pursue careers anywhere in the world.
The Ogun State Commissioner for Education, Science, and Technology, Prof. Abayomi Arigbabu, represented by the Director of State School Sports, Mr. Rotimi Ojeleye, and the Alagbara of Agbara, Oba Lukman Agunbiade, also congratulated the graduates. They acknowledged the graduates’ hard work and perseverance and reminded them of the importance of giving back and being good ambassadors for the skills and training they have received.
