Harnessing Power of Storytelling in Filmmaking – Azeez Warith

Our world is now dominated by social media, short attention spans, where content is consumed in mere seconds, hence the essence of storytelling has never been more critical. In this regard, a new name has emerged with a bold vision and a fresh approach. Founded in 2024 by filmmaker Azeez Warith, TheCroft Productions is redefining the art of storytelling in this digital age, using technology and innovation to create narratives that resonate deeply with viewers.

The Nigerian film industry has grown to become one of the largest in the world, yet it is not without its controversies. Issues such as storytelling, representation, and the portrayal of cultural norms continue to spark debate. For Warith, these controversies are not just challenges but opportunities to redefine the narrative. “Nollywood has a huge influence on how Nigerians see themselves and how the world sees Nigeria,” he explains. “But with that influence comes responsibility. As filmmakers, we have to ask ourselves—are we telling stories that reflect the true essence of our society, or are we reinforcing stereotypes and outdated beliefs?”
Unlike traditional film production companies, TheCroft Productions is embracing the modern era, where technology and creativity meet. “We’re breaking down the traditional barriers of filmmaking,” Warith says. With this comes great responsibility. As filmmakers, we have a duty to not only entertain but also to educate, challenge, and inspire. Through projects like The Legacy Campaign and The Mother, we’ve made it a point to showcase young, emerging talents, giving them a platform to share their stories with the world.”
Since its inception, TheCroft Productions has already achieved significant milestones. One of their standout projects, The Legacy Campaign along with the theme song The Mother Song, have garnered attention for their narratives and production techniques.
As the organization continues to grow, Warith remains focused on the company’s core mission: to tell stories that matter. “We’re just getting started,” he says with a smile. “The future is full of possibilities, and we’re excited to see where this journey takes us. Our goal is to keep pushing the envelope, to keep finding new ways to connect with our audience, and to keep creating films that resonate on a deep level.”
By showcasing strong characters and tackling controversial topics head-on, the company aims to set a new standard in Nigerian cinema. “We’re not afraid to take risks,” Warith states. “Whether it’s through a bold narrative or an unconventional character, we want our films to spark conversations and encourage people to think critically about the world around them.”
For Warith and his team, the journey is as important as the destination. “At the end of the day, it’s about creating something that resonates,” he reflects. “We want our films to spark conversations, inspire change, and most importantly, tell stories that matter. That’s what drives us, and that’s what we’ll continue to do.”
