In a bold and daring move, Dr. Eziafakaku Nwokolo, founder of Shades of Life Foundation (SOLF), is leading a team of 10 dedicated riders on an extraordinary 5-day, 1,000km bicycle journey from Lagos, Nigeria to Accra, Ghana and back.
This audacious adventure aims to raise vital awareness about autism, challenge societal stigma, and advocate for inclusivity and acceptance.
The journey begins in Lagos on August 20th, as the team sets off with a shared vision: to make a difference in the lives of African children living with autism. The riders, ranging in age from their 20s to 50s, come from diverse backgrounds, united by their passion for the cause.
As they pedal through the bustling streets of Lagos, they carry with them the hopes and dreams of families affected by autism.
As they cross the border into Ghana, the team faces new challenges, from navigating unfamiliar terrain to coping with the physical demands of long-distance cycling. Yet, their resolve remains unwavering, fueled by the knowledge that their efforts will bring about positive change.
Upon arriving in Accra, the SOLF team participates in the “Play with Stephen” golfing tournament, further amplifying the message of autism awareness and acceptance. This event brings together like-minded individuals, families, and organisations, fostering a sense of community and solidarity.
Dr. Nwokolo shared her personal motivations for embarking on this remarkable journey: “As a parent of an autistic child, I’ve experienced firsthand the struggles and triumphs. Professionally, I’ve witnessed the devastating impact of lack of support and understanding. This ride is my way of fighting for a more inclusive society, where every individual with autism can thrive.”
Through this epic bike ride, Shades of Life Foundation seeks to create a wave of change, inspiring a movement of acceptance, inclusivity, and support for families affected by autism.
