Creative Colony Launches Eco Art Experience for Lagos Kids
Mary Nnah
The Creative Colony Project has unveiled the Eco Art Project, a pioneering programme that combines artistic expression with environmental advocacy.
This ambitious initiative, executed in partnership with Artzmania and United Way Greater Nigeria, empowered children in Mushin and Makoko communities to transform waste into vibrant works of art, highlighting the critical importance of recycling in combating pollution and fostering a sustainable environment for future generations.
The project’s centrepiece featured a large canvas illustrating modern-day heroes, including Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Tunde Onakoya, and world record holder Tobi Amusan, created using an array of eco-friendly materials such as biscuit wrappers, cardboard, and other recycled waste. Over two days, children at Ilupeju Senior Secondary School in Mushin and Mawumaduka Orphanage in Makoko engaged in fun and educational activities, learning about the power of creativity, sustainability, and environmental stewardship.
Through this project, The Creative Colony Project demonstrated its commitment to promoting sustainability in Africa, providing a platform for children to express their creativity while learning about the importance of recycling and waste management. The initiative also showcased the potential for art to drive social change, inspiring a new generation of environmental leaders and change-makers.
The Creative Colony Project team extends its deepest gratitude to sponsors Artzmania and United Way Greater Nigeria, whose support was instrumental in the project’s success.
Special thanks are also owed to Honourable Rasaq, Chairman of Odi-Olowo LCDA, and outreach coordinators Progress Giwa and Fred Nwazu, who guided the children in their artistic endeavours and helped bring the project to life.
As The Creative Colony Project looks to the future, it remains committed to organising impactful projects that promote sustainability in Africa and urges Nigerians to prioritise recycling and environmental conservation to protect the planet for generations to come.
