Empowering Africa, One Techie at a Time – David Francis Effiong on Dahel Techies Mission

Dahel Consultants and Techies, a trailblazing tech education provider and empowerment organization, is making significant strides in transforming lives across Africa through its innovative community and mentorship initiatives. With a strong focus on bridging the digital skills gap and in climate change advocacy, the organization has emerged as a critical player in the tech industry, equipping thousands with the tools needed for success in an increasingly digital world.

Since its inception, Dahel Techies has offered a wide range of courses aimed at providing students with in-demand tech skills. David Francis Effiong, the Chairman and CEO of Dahel Techies, emphasized the organization’s commitment to professional development and business growth. In addition, Dahel Techies is focusing on Green Skills and continuous learning opportunities for teachers and educators in combating climate change.
“We’ve established a comprehensive support system that not only provides education but also assists clients and young people with developing business plans, facilitating fundraising efforts, and bridging the digital divide in sub-Saharan Africa,” Effiong said.

One of the standout achievements of Dahel Techies is its successful training of over 17,000 students and professionals, many of whom have gone on to launch successful careers in the tech industry. “Helping people kick-start their careers and witnessing how their lives have changed for the better is a significant milestone for us,” Effiong remarked.

Dahel Techies’ reach extends far beyond Nigeria. The organization has expanded globally, offering mentorship, coaching, and online sessions to Africans in countries such as Kenya, Uganda, Angola, and even to Africans living in China, the United States, Canada, and the United Kingdom. Testimonials from participants underscore the impact of these programs. One former student shared, “I completed the Power-BI project and secured a mid-level role just three months after the training. I’m now being considered for a team lead position.”

Beyond its educational offerings, Dahel Techies is deeply involved in community programs, particularly in rural sub-Saharan Africa. The organization has partnered with local schools, embassies, and various groups to organize coding workshops, educational seminars, and literary competitions, all aimed at empowering children and youths.

A notable example is Dahel Techies’ collaboration with the Federal Government of Nigeria under the 3 Million Technical Talent (3MTT) Fellowship program. As a recognized training provider for Cross River State, Nigeria, Dahel Techies partnered with national agencies like the National Information and Technical Development Agency (NITDA) to provide technical skills training. “During the first cohort, we recorded a completion rate of over 7%, with more than 3% of the fellows securing internships,” Effiong highlighted.

In addition, Dahel Techies has collaborated with prestigious institutions like the Imperial College London, UK and the University of Calabar, Nigeria to promote science and technology education. These initiatives have reached thousands of students, helping to foster a passion for innovation and preparing them for careers in the rapidly evolving tech industry.

The organization’s community impact extends to conflict resolution and business support in regions facing challenges. In collaboration with the Global youth Advancement Network of Michigan State University, USA, the Sunrise Youth Intervention Network, Nigeria and other international partners, Dahel Techies has provided tech assistance and guidance to small businesses affected by conflict in Nigeria and Angola. The newly launched platform, Conflict Solutions Africa, supported by world-class mentors, has already engaged over 200 participants in essential training sessions.

Dahel Techies’ commitment to mentorship is equally noteworthy. “We established several mentorship programs where experienced professionals guide young individuals through their tech journeys. Our Jobs Readiness Program (JRP) has been particularly successful, helping hundreds of young Africans prepare for the job market,” Effiong explained. This initiative offers personalized career guidance, one-on-one mentoring, and industry insights to help participants make informed decisions and succeed.

The impact of Dahel Techies’ work has not gone unnoticed. In recognition of his efforts, David Francis Effiong was awarded the prestigious Mandela Washington Fellowship by the U.S. Department of State in 2022. During his time at Michigan State University and subsequent work with Plan International USA in Washington, D.C., Effiong continued to advocate for increased partnerships in community development and climate change advocacy programs across Africa.

Reflecting on his achievements, Effiong remains focused on the future. “By equipping individuals with technological knowledge and fostering a passion for innovation, we are giving them the tools they need to thrive in an increasingly digital world,” he said.

As Dahel Techies continues to grow, its impact on communities and individuals across Africa serves as a testament to the power of education, mentorship, and technology in driving positive change.
