The Kogi State Government in collaboration with Stop TB Partnership Nigeria has initiated a revitalised effort to combat tuberculosis (TB) in the state.

The wife of the state governor, Hajia Sefinat Ododo, who was appointed as the TB Champion for Kogi State, has pledged to mobilise support and resources to eradicate TB, stressing the importance of collective action in raising awareness and ensuring effective treatment.

Hajia Ododo, after taking the role of TB Champion of Peace, called upon local government chairmen and their spouses to serve as local TB champions.

She officially launched the TB champion campaign and sensitisation programme in Kogi State. Also, the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Abdulazeez Adeiza Adams, reaffirmed the state government dedication to healthcare excellence.

He highlighted the progress made in TB control and the partnerships established with global organisations, emphasising the state investments in the health sector, including the enhancement of hospitals and health centres that provide TB treatments.

The commissioner has commended the governor’s wife for leading the efforts to combat TB and has praised Stop TB Partnership Nigeria for its relentless work since 2006 to eliminate TB in Nigeria.

Adams acknowledged the president’s commitment to healthcare and the state initiatives under Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo to revitalise primary healthcare centres.

Meanwhile, the acting Permanent Secretary, Dr. Barnabas Segun Isaac, described TB as a significant public health challenge, underscoring the importance of awareness and early detection. He highlighted the impact of TB on individuals with weakened immune systems and its symptoms, such as persistent cough.

On his own, Dr. Komolafe Rotimi, the program manager of Stop TB Partnership Nigeria, expressed gratitude to partners and the state first lady for her leadership in the campaign against TB.
