From Comedy to Music, How Nasboi is Defining Multifaceted Career

Lawal Michael Nasiru Bolaji, popularly known as Nasboi has just released a new single he titled, ‘Short Skirt.’ Released over a week ago, the new single has become a sensation and features in several skits giving the multifaceted entertainer a large spread of his music.

Colleagues, fans, skit makers, and influencers have gone ahead to hop on the trend of his new music with offerings of comical and hilarious content. 

Nollywood Super Star, Chinedu Ikedieze has also jumped on the song releasing a rather comical video dressed as a woman with a short skirt, and a red wig, glammed with makeup while offering an entertaining watch. Nasboi also explored the power of controversy in music promotion as he had Legendary Musician, Baba Fryo calling him out for musical theft which was rather a guise to push his music.

In 1994, Baba Fryo released a nationwide hit, Denge Pose and on his new track Nasboi explored some of the lyrics of the song. At first many thought it was a huge infringement but to not create unnecessary drama he further explained in subsequent contents he released through his Instagram account through indirect communication that it was just gameplay. This exploration further shows how calculated he is towards approaching his goals and highlights his commitment to his crafts. 

But before his mainstream musical career which he ventured into a while ago, Nasboi was the comedian renowned for his spot-on imitation of musical icon, Davido which earned him the nickname of “Low Budget OBO.” His journey in the lucrative Nigerian entertainment scene birthed with a passion for music, but despite numerous attempts, he was unable to break in. But on a sudden switch into creating short comedy skits on Instagram his career took a different turn and gradually saw him grow to over 2 Million followers on Instagram. Without relenting he went ahead to diversify his character off Davido’s imitation to several other interesting and unique characters.

Despite his growing music career, he has come to prove that he is a creative force in the world of comedy which introduced him to many as he continues captivating audiences with his unique blend of humor and relatable characters. His keen observational skills and knack for turning ordinary scenarios into an irresistible comedic experience has earned him a mastery of his craft. One major thing he has done exceptionally is how he reflects realistic experiences of the average Nigerian circling around societal issues, culture, trending topics, and relatable truths with an insightful message. 

Another applause to him is his ability and intelligence to adapt to the changing times of social media, entertainment at large, and content digestion of his audience. This thoughtful path has helped Nasboi maintain relevance in an industry that keeps producing talents so frequently where already established entertainers have to keep up their game or risk fading out quicker than they came in. In 2023 his official debut song, Umbrella featuring renowned vocal powerhouse, Wande Coal paved a perfect entry into the music scene. This one single hit took him to a wider audience and without relenting he dropped a second official single, Small Money earlier this year which helped remarkably in his establishment as a serial hitmaker. The release of both singles showcased his evolution which further highlights his ability to connect to diverse audiences.

With ‘Short Skirt’ trending widely and its acceptance, Nasboi has yet again proven himself as a multifaceted entertainer who is attentive to times and seasons but also an adaptive player when it comes to the entertainment trends as it births.
