The Advocates of Justice in Africa (AJA) has praised President Bola Tinubu for appointing new Directors-General for the Department of State Services (DSS) and the National Intelligence Agency (NIA).

In a statement signed by Barrister Johnson Ali Usman, the group expressed confidence that the appointments of Mohammed Mohammed and Adeola Ajayi signify the President’s dedication to strengthening critical national institutions.

According to Usman, Mohammed’s extensive experience and Ajayi’s exemplary service make them well-suited for their respective roles. He noted that Mohammed’s background, including his time as head of the Nigerian mission in Libya, and Ajayi’s progression through the ranks, reflect their capability to lead.

“We commend President Tinubu for his decision to reinvigorate the leadership of the DSS and NIA,” Usman said. “This action underscores his commitment to ensuring that key institutions are led by individuals who can effectively address the nation’s security challenges.”

The AJA also called on President Tinubu to bring similar reforms to the oil and gas sector by considering new leadership for key organizations such as the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC), Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC), and Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA).

Usman highlighted concerns about inefficiencies and management issues within the sector, stressing the importance of leadership that can enhance transparency and accountability.

“We believe that addressing the leadership in the oil and gas sector is essential for overcoming the challenges of corruption and inefficiency. A renewed focus on capable management could help restore confidence in the sector’s potential to contribute to national development,” Usman added.
