Frettic Reflects on Career as Producer, Sound Engineer

Nigerian music producer and audio engineer Aiyeobasan Tosin Elijah, aka Frettic, has shared insights into his journey within the music industry, highlighting the experiences and influences that have shaped his career.

Frettic who was born into a music-inclined family, credits his parents and siblings as his earliest inspirations, saying, “I count myself as a favoured vessel born into a music-inclined family, and I have been into music as long as I gained consciousness. My parents and siblings have been a wonderful inspiration and helped me take the very first steps in this direction.”

Speaking on his his experience, Frettic who has collaborated with notable artists such as Mega 99 and Kent Edunjobi among a host of other established names further emphasized that dexterity, versatility, and continuous research are key.

“Most prominent figures have their exclusive singing styles, and a good musicologist must have a broad understanding of whom he’s working with. They continuously re-ignite the passion for me to learn more.” While Frettic has worked across various genres, his focus has largely been on gospel music.

He attributes this to his personal spiritual beliefs, stating, “I think I count myself as a spiritual person, so naturally, I resonate better with gospel music.” However, he also noted, “I do other genres too. I have worked with secular musicians in the industry because I always try to connect with every music I work on.”
