‘The Weekend’ Premieres Nationwide After Making History at Tribeca Film Festival

Since its groundbreaking world premiere  in Newyork as the first independently produced Nollywood film to be showcased at the Tribeca Film Festival in June, ‘The Weekend’ has captivated the curiosity of movie enthusiasts and is now released in cinemas nationwide.

The Weekend, a production of Trino Motion Pictures and distributed by FilmOne had its premiere event on the 30th of August, at The Filmhouse Cinema Landmark, Lagos.

The premiere was a star-studded affair with Nollywood icons that exuded a captivating Afrocentric allure, perfectly encapsulating the event’s theme.

Directed by Daniel Oriahi and crafted by the brilliant minds of Egbemawei Dimiyei Sammy, Vanessa Kanu, and Freddie O Anyaegbunam Jr., with production overseen by Uche Okocha, “The Weekend” unravels the story of Nikya, an orphan yearning for a sense of family following the loss of her parents.

Her hope rests with her fiancé, Luc, who has been distanced from his family for over a decade, causing hesitation in reconnecting.

Soon, she discovers that sometimes, it’s wiser to let sleeping dogs lie.

Reflecting on The Weekend release in cinemas, Daniel Oriahi emphasized that the key to success lies in the alignment of preparation and opportunity.

‘I meticulously developed a comprehensive lookbook of over 200 pages, that outlined my visions for each scene.

I’m thrilled that The Weekend is out for Nigerians to experience, and I am optimistic about the future of Nollywood’.
