Rotary Club Holds Health Outreach in Warri

The Rotary Clubs of Edjeba, Effurun and Bendel Estate yesterday organised a health outreach for the residents of Edjeba and Effurun to improve health care and support the local communities.

The ceremony tagged “Project Empowering Communities” and  held at Edjeba junction by Delta Broadcasting Service (DBS) witnessed large turnout of residents.

Amongst the services rendered to the communities included medical screening, blood pressure, sugar level, eye screening while under its food assistance programme distributed items ranging from rice, beans, vegetable oil and others.

Clothes and shoes were also distributed to both the old and young, including students from Edjeba College that thronged the venue of the event.

More than 500 residents benefitted from the project put up the Rotary Clubs in the communities.

Flagging off the exercise, District Governor D9141, Rtn. Chinedu Ikegwuani, said that it is a testament to Rotary’s core value of “Service Above Self.”

He commended the three Rotary Clubs for carrying out a successful project that would impact on the lives of the people in line with the doctrine of the club.

President of Rotary Club of Bendel Estate, Ms. StellaMarris Duru, said that the distribution of foods, clothing and medicals was the pet project for the year, which every club was expected to carry out.

Duru said that it was the first time, aside during the pandemic period, that the Rotary Clubs of Edjeba, Effurun and Bendel Estate were carrying out the project in the district.

He said: “We feel the project is going to touch lives because there are some households that cannot afford a meal a day, so we provide them with foods.

“Those that cannot afford paying bills in hospitals were treated while we gave out clothing to the young and old, women and men and students. We are touching humanity with this exercise.”

President of Rotary Club, Edjeba, Mr. Kenneth Okpeahior, and President of Rotary Club Effurun, Ms. Florence Chukwuebuni, expressed satisfaction with the outcome of the exercise.  

Meanwhile, Rotary Club of Edjeba had on Tuesday commissioned a newly renovated state of the art Physics laboratory at Edjeba College in Warri South Local government area of Delta State.

The project was brought to fruition in partnership with Fortyfour Services Limited to enhance science learning by the students of the community.

District Governor of D9142, Mr. Chinedu Ikegwuani, who performed the commissioning during his official visit to Zone 8, expressed satisfaction with the contributions of Rotary Club Edjeba in the upgrade of facilities at the laboratory.

President of Rotary Club of Edjeba, MR. Kenneth Okpeahior, disclosed that the idea of renovating the Physics laboratory was to promote interests of students in science.

He said that the Rotary Club of Edjeba had, in the past three years, put together projects to develop Physics, Chemistry and Computer laboratories assuring that that of Biology will be fixed next year.
