Chief Sam Awiaka @ 70 Birthday Golf Tourney Ends in Style

It was an exciting moment  at the closing event of the Chief Sam Awiaka @ 70 Birthday Golf Tournament concluded last Saturday at Benin Club Golf Section (BCGS), Edo State

At the end of the tournament, Victor Amadu and Ehis Igbinadolor were declared winners in the men’s and ladies category respectively.

BCGS Competition Secretary, Osazee Iyare and immediate past LGAN South-South Zonal Vice President, Sandra Emina won the best gross trophies with 76 and 87 gross respectively.

The tournament which teed-off from Wednesday with Caddies, Eaglets and Professionals, invited guests and members events was packaged by wife of the celebrant, former Lady Captain, Princess Nkeruika Awiaka and Friends of Chief Awiaka under the Chairmanship of Ignatius Aigbonkhaode, former BCGS Captain.

Amadu played a net score of 71 to emerge men’s hcp 0-18 category winner. Former BCGS Captain, Dr. Bola Atua placed second having beaten Felix Agamwonyi on count-back as they both recorded 72 net respectively.

Similarly, Igbinadolor in the hcp 0-20 ladies category settled the division with amazing 75 net ahead of past Lady Captains, Suwadeetu Mahmud with 76 and Debby Otabor with 78 net.

Other winners included Adekunle Edeki, with 74 net in the hcp 19-28 category while Dr. Queen Adesuwa lifted the hcp 21-36 ladies category with 73 net.

Juliet Ugiagbe, former lady captain won the veteran ladies trophy by playing 75 net just as Monday Ikhureigbe went home with the veteran men’s category award. Dr. Gabriel Ihenyen clinched the super veterans cadre.

Moreover, in the individual awards, it was the Ugiagbes family affairs as Mrs. Juliet Ugiagbe and her husband, former Benin Club President, Lawson Ugiagbe dominated nearest the pin hole 14 on day one while Dorothy Chukwu and Pharmacist Enoma claimed the ladies and men’s longest drive awards.

The day two event saw Suwadeetu Mahmud and R. Idehen winning the nearest the pin hole 14 ladies and men’s respectively just as Igho and O. Moses win the longest drive ladies and men’s category.

However, the elated celebrant, Chief Awiaka thanked the BCGS management, friends and others guests for being at the tournament, adding that he would continue to contribute his quota to the development of the game.

Meanwhile, the Captain of the Club, Joseph Idahosa commended the organisers of the tournament for organising a hitch free weeklong tournament that accommodated all categories.

Highlights of the closing ceremony which lasted till midnight was the presentation of trophies and other household items to all those who distinguished themselves in various categories.
