Otunba Yemi Lawal Champions Youth Sports with Support for Obasanjo National Squash Championship

In a significant boost to grassroots sports development, Otunba Yemi Lawal, the Osi Bobagunwa of EgbeLand and Chairman of Seagle Property Development Company, has once again demonstrated his commitment to nurturing young talent by sponsoring the 6th Edition of the Chief Olusegun Obasanjo National Squash Championship.
This annual event, which features senior and U16 categories for both men and women, aims to promote the sport of squash across Nigeria while honoring the legacy of former President Olusegun Obasanjo.
Otunba Yemi Lawal, the sponsor of this year edition, said that that it was pertinent to catch the young ones and nurture them in the limelight in squash games ahead 2028 next Olympics.
He also appealed to the government to leverage squash games in preparation for the next international tourney.
“We intend to encourage and support the programme and ensure that Nigerians participate in the coming Olympics and giving them scholarships in their studies.
“This is also part of giving back to the society, as part of our Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR)”, he said.
The competition which was sponsored by Seagle Property Development Coy, in partnership with the Ogun State Squash Association and the Nigeria Squash Federation featured 172 players from across the country.
The newsmen reports that Onoopemipo Adegoke, the Nigeria number one squash player has won the men’s 6th National Squash Championship held at the Olusegun Obasanjo Squash Court, Abeokuta.
Adegoke, who is currently based in the United States defeating his number two rival, Olufunmilayo Gabriel by 3 games to 1.
In the female category, Addulazeez Rofiat from Kwara state, defeated Busayo Olatunji of the NSCDC by 3-1, while Aishat Abdulraheem won against Zainab Ishola in the U-16 girls division.
For the Under-16 boys, Mathew Yusuf of Lagos State won 3-0 against Shuib Giwa of Kwara State.
Otunba Lawal’s sponsorship not only underscores his dedication to fostering athletic excellence but also highlights the importance of community engagement in empowering the next generation of sports stars.
