The National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) has urged greater collaboration between the media and civil society organizations (CSOs) to foster sustainable development and strengthen democracy in Nigeria.

Speaking at the Democracy Radio Roundtable in Abuja, the Director of Investigation and Enforcement of NBC, Prof. Abubakar Sulaiman noted the media’s critical role in informing the public and holding the government accountable.

Sulaiman who was represented by John Ogbole, emphasized the need for responsible journalism that prioritizes national unity and public interest through adherence to the Nigeria Broadcasting Code.

“The media and civil society must work together to promote transparency in areas like public spending, corruption, and human rights.”

The NBC reaffirmed its support for initiatives that promote professionalism and deepen Nigeria’s democratic culture.

Also speaking, Acting General Manager of Democracy Radio 104.9 FM, Uju Nwachukwu, described the gathering as a “critical turning point” in advancing transparency and active citizen participation.
