KANSIEC Reduces Nomination Form Fees for Chairmanship, Councillorship Candidates

The Kano State Independent Electoral Commission(KANSIEC) has reduced by N1 million each for the nomination fees for Chairmanship and Councillorship positions for the forthcoming local government elections in the state.
The Chairman of the commission,Prof.Sani Malumfashi, who announced the new fees at a news briefing in Kano on Friday, said the body reduced the fees in compliance with the court injunction.
He stated that the commission respects the court and the order restricting it from collecting N10 million for the Chairmanship nomination form and N5 million for Councillorship after some political parties went to court to challenge the initial rates.
According to him, the commission would now charge N9 million for the Chairmanship nomination form and N4 million for councillorship nomination form for the forthcoming polls.
“We are a law-abiding organization and as such,we are complying with the court order and therefore reducing the nomination fees to N9 million for chairmanship and N4 million for councillorship positions.”
He said the nomination forms bearing the new fees are already in some designated banks and would be on sale from next Monday and advised candidates of the various political parties partaking in the elections to access them.
