O’DA Art is to present ÀWA, an exhibition showcasing the works of visual artists Simon Ojeaga and Daniel Olumide.

This marks the first-ever exhibition by artists represented by O’DA Art Gallery.

ÀWA, meaning “Us,” offers a rich exploration of youth in contemporary Nigeria, highlighting the individuality and shared experiences of young people.

The exhibition delves into how cultural traditions, particularly those rooted in African heritage, serve as a thread that connects different customs and lifestyles across the world.

Through figuration and portraiture, the artists depict both personal and communal narratives, offering a nuanced portrayal of life in modern Nigeria.

Olumide’s work focuses on the everyday life of young adults in Lagos, using portraiture to capture growth, empowerment, and introspection.

His piece ‘Hopeful Eyes’ portrays the intense gaze of a young boy, drawing viewers into his contemplative world, while Ambivalence presents a more enigmatic figure, hinting at the complexity of youthful identity.

Ojeaga, on the other hand, explores self-discovery and generational dialogue through his unique “Fractellations” technique, which creates intricate visual patterns.

His work ‘Wacko, Sleight of Hand’ reflects the fluidity of adolescence, while ‘Warm Hands’ symbolises unity and divine connection through a group of male figures intertwined.

Together, Ojeaga and Olumide offer a thought-provoking dialogue on identity, connection, and the human experience, inviting viewers to reflect on their journeys.

The exhibition kicked off on September 3 and is expected to run through to September 30, 2024, scheduled for Tuesday – Saturday at 10am – 6pm.
