Otriexx Overcomes Typhoon to Release Emotionally Charged Single “Depression”

In the face of a powerful typhoon and the shutdown of his city, Nigerian artist Otriexx, whose real name is Efeodjuvwu Ernest Otutu, is set to release his deeply personal single, Depression, on September 27th.

Currently based in Hai Phong, Vietnam, where he is pursuing a degree in International Business and Logistics at Vietnam Maritime University, Otriexx has been confronted with a storm that has brought the city to a halt.

Schools, businesses, and daily activities have been suspended indefinitely, leaving many, including Otriexx, confined to their homes.

However, the physical and emotional challenges posed by the typhoon have not deterred the young artist from pressing forward with his musical plans.

Despite the chaos, Otriexx has continued working from his home studio, channeling his feelings of isolation and uncertainty into his music.

His upcoming track, Depression, is a raw and unfiltered expression of the mental health struggles he has faced, particularly during this period of enforced solitude.

“The typhoon has been one of the most challenging experiences I’ve had to endure,” Otriexx shared. “But this song is about overcoming the darkness within. I couldn’t let this storm delay my music, especially when Depression is about finding strength in the midst of life’s hardest moments.”

Otriexx’s music draws from his Nigerian heritage and global influences, blending Afrobeat, hip-hop, and electronic music to create a distinctive and emotive sound.

His work is marked by its depth and storytelling, with Depression standing as a reflection of his journey through mental health battles—a theme he feels is more relevant than ever, given the current circumstances in Vietnam.

Beyond the physical storm outside, Otriexx describes the song as a reflection of the internal storms many face, drawing parallels between the forces of nature and the struggles of the mind.

“Being confined during the storm has intensified these feelings, but music is the one thing I still have control over,” he said. “I want to connect with people who are going through similar struggles.”

As Otriexx prepares for the release of Depression, he hopes to inspire others by sharing his personal story of resilience.

Despite the obstacles, the September 27th release will serve as a beacon of hope for anyone battling through life’s storms.
