The Transformation of Oke Blessing Akambe: A Journey from Accounting to Filmmaking

In the bustling city of Lagos, 33-years-old Delta State born, from Ajatitor in Ethiope West Local Government Area, Oke Blessing Akambe has emerged as a trailblazer in the Nigeria’s film industry popularly called Nollywood, reshaping narratives and challenging conventions with her cinematic vision.

Born and raised in Lagos, State Nigeria where she had her primary and secondary education before proceeding to the Lagos State University (Lasu) where she obtained a bachelor’s degree in Accounting Education. Plus an MBA in Business Administration from the Prestigious University of Sunderland, United Kingdom. Oke’s journey from a career in accounting to becoming a powerhouse movie producer in Nigeria is a testament to her courage and creative spirit.

After years of working in the corporate world, Oke felt a deep longing for a more expressive and fulfilling path. Propelled by a passion for storytelling and a desire to make a tangible impact, she made the bold decision to transition from numbers to narratives.

Embracing the uncertainty and challenges that came with pursuing her dreams as a film maker in Nigeria.

In 2016, this creative mind, a Writer, Producer and Director pivoted her Nollywood journey working for a production company in Lagos as an accountant where she duly handled the company’s financial matters during production, post production and other corporate financial responsibilities. Blessing, driven by passion, dedication and hard work transited from being the icompany’s accountant to becoming a production manager and later a producer.

She managed and produced over 20 movies. Below are some of the movie titles – One Crazy Weekend, Smoke, Forced Engagement, feels Like Heaven, Trips, Maybe Mine, A dose of Her Pill, The Other Woman, Ex & Why, Rainbows, Situationship, The Escort, The Waiting List amongst many others.

With a determination to carve out her own unique space in an industry dominated by tradition.

Through hard work, perseverance, and a relentless pursuit of excellence, Blessing as she is fondly called by fellow creatives quickly made a name for herself in Nollywood.

She is the Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Okembe Pictures, a company dedicated towards filmmaking and television.

She is a member of the Association of movie Producers (Amp), the Director Guild of Nigeria (DGN) and an Alumni of Ebonylife academy where she studied directing.

This quintessential film maker has produced and directed over 5 movies personally and has participated in over 25 film projects and some have gained access to Cinemas across Nigeria including local and international movie platforms like Ibaka tv, African Magic, Iroko tv, Rok, AMC, Tubi, Netflix etc.

Her knack for blending financial acumen with artistic flair set her apart, allowing her to navigate the complexities of film production with finesse and ingenuity. With each project, she pushed boundaries, defied expectations, and championed stories that resonated with audiences from all walks of life.
