Adebiyi Adebayo Highlights the Power of AI in Driving Smarter Business Intelligence Solutions
Adebiyi Adebayo, a data scientist says that Artificial Intelligence (AI) is making waves across various fields, and its impact on Business Intelligence (BI) is particularly noteworthy.
While BI focuses on the analysis of data to inform strategic decision-making, AI enhances these processes through automation and increased efficiency.
According to Adebiyi, “One of the most significant areas where AI is transforming BI is in automating repetitive tasks within the workflow. Traditional tasks like file management, data extraction, report generation, and even complex workflows such as pipeline orchestration can now be streamlined using AI models and scripts.
For instance, a simple Python script can automate the process of renaming files in a folder by adding a prefix to each file.
Such automation extends to batch file processing, data cleansing, and even extracting data from APIs, freeing up valuable time for data professionals.
He said another critical aspect of BI is the creation of DAX (Data Analysis Expressions) Measures, which are essential for building effective BI dashboards. These measures underpin most metrics visualized for stakeholders.
With the advent of generative AI, report developers can leverage AI’s code generation capabilities to compute a variety of measures efficiently.
A basic example is the DAX Measure known as Total Sales, which sums the Sales Amount column to yield the total sales figure. More complex calculations, such as YTD Sales and RankByStateAndLG, can build upon foundational measures, delivering deeper insights and more nuanced analyses.
According to him, “Documentation is another area where AI shines, particularly in managing data pipelines. Once the flow of the ETL (Extraction, Transformation, Loading) process is established, AI can generate comprehensive documentation based on a clear description of the process.
“This capability ensures that the documentation is well-structured and can be tailored to meet the specific needs of data engineers and business stakeholders alike.
“Moreover, AI plays a pivotal role in data governance, an essential aspect of BI that regulates how data is used, accessed, stored, secured, and managed within an organization.
“By generating guidelines and policies that ensure data accuracy and regulatory compliance, AI enhances key areas of data governance such as Data Quality Management, Data Privacy and Security, and Master Data Management (MDM).
“Writing of clean and efficient SQL queries is critical in any BI workflow. AI can assist in generating queries based on user descriptions, correcting runtime errors, and optimizing existing queries for better performance.
For instance, AI can restructure SQL queries to improve readability and efficiency, ensuring they execute swiftly.”
He concludes that AI is fundamentally transforming the landscape of Business Intelligence by automating tasks, enhancing decision-making, and improving overall efficiency in data workflows.
With the promise of fully functional and interactive BI dashboards created by AI without human intervention on the horizon, it’s crucial to adhere to organizational guidelines while leveraging these technologies.
