Malaysian University Awards Scholarships to 2,500 Nigerian Indigent Students

A Malaysian university, Lincoln University Malaysia, said it has offered 80 per cent scholarships to 2,500 indigent students in Nigeria.

The founder of the university, Prof. Amiya Bhaumik, revealed this during the matriculation ceremony for 500 students at the Nasarawa State University, Keffi (NSUK) Campus of the institution in Keffi at the weekend.

He said the gesture was part of the university’s mission to cater to Nigeria’s growing demand for international-standard education.

While sharing the institution’s vision to expand access to world-class education, the founder emphasised that the scholarship initiative would allow prospective students to pay tuition fees nearly equivalent to those of government-owned institutions in Nigeria.

The Pro-Chancellor of the Lincoln University, Prof. Bibi Florina, highlighted the university’s commitment to nurturing future leaders across the world.

She also underscored the significance of the Lincoln and NSUK strategic partnership.

Addressing journalists shortly after the occasion, Vice-Chancellor of (NSUK), Prof. Sa’adatu Hassan Liman, expressed delight over NSUK being the first Nigerian university to host an international university on its campus. 

“This partnership will set a new standard for higher education in Nigeria. We are delighted to be a part of this historic moment and are committed to maintaining a high academic standard for our students,” she maintained.

The Head of Public Affairs for the Lincoln University, NSUK Campus, Mr. Kichime Gotau, emphasised that the scholarship initiative would bridge the gap between the privileged and the less privileged.
