Self-taught artist Adeyemi Abolaji will debut his latest body of work, “Emotions & Perspectives: The Subconscious Meeting Reality in Thought,” at the Orishirish Food Fair on Saturday, October 5, 2024. The event, held at Almat Farm in the Kuje District of Abuja, is set against the backdrop of Nigeria’s Independence Day celebrations.
Adeyemi’s new collection delves into themes of identity and emotion, drawing from his own experiences and the broader Nigerian cultural narrative. His pieces vividly portray the spectrum of human emotions—joy, sorrow, love, and longing—inviting viewers to engage deeply with each artwork.
“This exhibition is more than just an emotional expression; it’s a space where thoughts come alive and feelings take shape,” Adeyemi explains. “The vibrant colors and dynamic compositions are crafted to resonate uniquely with each visitor, depending on their own perspectives.
The exhibition challenges visitors to move beyond passive observation and engage in a dialogue with the art. “Every person brings their own stories, beliefs, and experiences to each piece of art. This is what makes art so powerful—it evolves with every individual’s gaze,” Adeyemi notes.
Critics and attendees have praised the emotional depth and cultural relevance of his work, highlighting how it transforms art into a living conversation. “No two people will perceive these works in the same way. This divergence in interpretation is what makes my art resonate so deeply,” he says.
As guests explore the exhibition, they are encouraged to let their emotions guide them while staying open to shifts in their perspectives. “Observe how colors, shapes, and textures interact—not just with each other, but with you. In this space where emotions and perspectives meet, the true beauty of my work lies in the shared humanity it captures and the dialogues it inspires.
The exhibition will remain open throughout the fair, giving visitors ample opportunity to engage with the themes of identity and emotion woven into the collection. A private reception will follow at 4pm, offering guests a chance to meet and converse with Adeyemi personally, creating a space for further connection and discussion.
