Discovering the True Self: Mental Health Conference Examines Identity and Well-Being

In a world increasingly influenced by external pressures, the struggle to define personal identity is becoming more pronounced. This year’s Mental Health Conference, now in its second edition, centers on the theme of identity, asking participants the poignant question: “Who Are You, Really?” The event is scheduled to hold on October 13, 2024, at Oriental Hotel Ballroom, Victoria Island, Lagos by 2pm.

The conference seeks to create a space for individuals to explore the deep, often complicated relationship between identity and mental health. Identity is not a fixed concept but an evolving understanding of who we are, shaped by our decisions, relationships, and societal expectations. For many, defining this identity is a challenge, compounded by the weight of professional demands, gender norms, and the omnipresent influence of social media.

Led by renowned psychiatrist and mental health advocate Dr. Maymunah Yusuf Kadiri, the conference brings together an array of speakers, including mental health professionals, advocates, and thought leaders. Together, they will unpack topics such as identity crises, the impact of trauma on self-perception, and the role multicultural experiences play in shaping identity.

With a hybrid format offering both in-person and virtual attendance, the conference provides a platform for meaningful dialogue and interactive sessions, equipping attendees with the insights and tools needed for personal growth, authentic self-expression, and mental health resilience.
