Will Musawa Be Retained as Fresh Tales Hit Town?

In Nigerian politics, the issue of Hannatu Musawa’s NYSC saga has sparked plenty of chatter. Musawa, currently serving as Minister of Art, Culture, and Creative Economy, holds her position while still completing her NYSC service. Many wonder how this situation will affect her future, particularly in the face of talks that President Bola Tinubu is set to reshuffle his cabinet.

Recently, Musawa insisted that she has done nothing wrong, and that she would provide no immediate explanation, and will focus on doing her job. Her critics, however, recall the case of Kemi Adeosun, the former Finance Minister who lost her job over a similar NYSC-related controversy. Adeosun resigned when it came to light that her NYSC certificate was allegedly falsified, making some believe Musawa may face the same fate.

The law is quite clear on the matter: all Nigerian graduates under 30 must undergo the mandatory NYSC service. Musawa, though, claims the  matter has been “adjudicated,” leaving Nigerians to wonder whether this legal loophole will protect her. Yet, sceptics argue that laws should apply equally to all, regardless of office.

With President Tinubu’s reputation on the line, many wonder if he’ll retain Musawa in his government.
