In a bid to tackle food insecurity and promote sustainable development, Hon. Omolara Oyekan-Olumegbon, lawmaker representing Lagos Island Constituency 1, has advocated for urban farming. This visionary approach aims to empower residents to grow their own food, fostering a healthier and more self-sufficient community.

At the 9th Constituency Stakeholders Meeting, themed “Ensuring Food Security for a Sustainable Future: Youth Participation and Home-Grown Farming,” Hon. Oyekan-Olumegbon emphasised the importance of food security.

“Food security is a top priority in our era,” she remarked. “By participating in home-grown farming, every household can help reduce hunger and ensure access to nutritious food for the community.”

The lawmaker underscored the dual advantages of urban agriculture, pointing to its potential to economically empower residents while promoting healthier eating habits. “We need more people involved in farming,” she emphasized. “By creating opportunities for our youth to learn, innovate, and engage in agriculture, we lay the foundation for a sustainable future for Lagos Island.”
