#WMHD: Nestoil Group calls on workers to be emotionally resilient
In celebration of World Mental Health Day, the Nestoil Group hosted an enlightening event to guide workers on how to be emotionally resilient in a Volatile, Uncertain, Complex and Ambiguous (VUCA) environment.
The event aimed at promoting mental well-being among staff, according to one of the Group’s Medical Doctors, Dr. Ngozi Ogbunede is particularly important considering the society we are now.
The day featured a keynote address, a panel discussion, and a mindfulness session, all designed to equip employees with the tools to manage their mental health effectively.
The event commenced with a keynote address delivered by Dr. Tunji Odebiyi, a clinical psychologist and employee assistance program specialist.
Dr. Odebiyi focused on ‘Emotional Resilience in Hard Times’ discussing common stressors and trigger factors that can impact mental health.
He emphasized the importance of building resilience, concluding his talk with the powerful reminder that “things don’t get better, we only get stronger.”
A dynamic panel discussion took place, after the keynote address, featuring Dr. Odebiyi alongside Toluse Francis, a Life Coach, and Ms. Kris Oziofu Ekuafeh-Ero, a Holistic Empowerment Coach.
The panel addressed the theme of this year’s World Mental Health Day: ‘Prioritising Mental Health in the Workplace’.
Some key discussion points included: The impact of mental health on employee productivity; Identifying signs of declining mental health among employees; and The critical role of self-care in maintaining mental well-being
The panelists shared valuable insights and practical strategies for fostering a supportive workplace environment.
To wrap up the day’s activities, Dr. Odebiyi led a mindfulness session where participants engaged in stretching and breathing exercises.
Attendees learned techniques to steer their minds towards positive thoughts, reinforcing the importance of mindfulness in daily life.
Ogbunede stated that the Nestoil Group remains committed to prioritising mental health and well-being within its workforce. “Through events like these, the organization aims to create an open dialogue about mental health challenges and promote a culture of support among employees”, she asserted.
