In a heartwarming display of community service, the Unit Hike Group, a renowned hiking organization based in Abuja, took a significant step towards promoting visual health on World Sight Day. The group’s mission to Bmoka Community in Bwari Area Council marked a pivotal moment in their efforts to address the pressing issue of vision impairment in the region.
The Unit Hike Group, known for its unwavering passion for nature and adventure, organized a special hiking event and donated over 70 pairs of reading glasses to the residents of Bmoka Community. Recognizing the critical importance of eye care, especially in underserved areas, the group also conducted free eye tests to identify and address potential vision problems.
According to statistics, approximately 4.25% of Abuja’s population suffers from vision impairment, and the Unit Hike Group’s initiative aimed to provide much-needed relief to those affected. By offering free eye exams and distributing reading glasses, the group sought to improve the quality of life for the community members and empower them to lead more fulfilling lives.
The generous gesture was met with immense gratitude from the Bmoka Community, with the local chief expressing his sincere appreciation for the group’s efforts. The residents were overjoyed to receive the reading glasses, which will undoubtedly make a tangible difference in their daily lives.
Olamide Oni, one of the group’s administrators, highlighted the importance of combining hiking with community service. “Our goal is not only to enjoy the beauty of nature but also to give back to the communities along our routes,” Oni stated. “By conducting free eye tests and providing reading glasses, we hope to leave a lasting positive impact.”
The Unit Hike Group’s initiative serves as a powerful reminder of the positive impact that individuals and organizations can have on their communities. Through their selfless efforts and commitment to social welfare, they have demonstrated that hiking can be more than just a recreational activity; it can be a force for good.
