Abimbola Obafunwa Advocates for Dance as a Wellness Tool

Abimbola Obafunwa, founder and creative director of Corporate Dance World and Entertainment (CDW&E), emphasized the numerous health benefits of dancing, highlighting its role in promoting overall wellness.

At the annual Dancerapy Fitness Marathon, which gathered over 700 dance fitness enthusiasts, Obafunwa stressed the importance of creating platforms showcasing dance fitness’ transformative power. He also emphasized the event’s role in encouraging dance as a lifestyle and fostering positive family activities.

“Dance offers a fun and engaging alternative to traditional exercise routines, which can often be monotonous,” Obafunwa said. “Exercise can be quite dull, but dancing is enjoyable and arguably the most exciting form of fitness in the world.”

The next Dancerapy Fitness Marathon is scheduled for Easter Monday, April 21st, 2025, at The Stable, Bode Thomas, Surulere, Lagos, with the theme “Reppin’ Your Fitness Tribe.”

Obafunwa noted that dance’s benefits are extensive, particularly in supporting cognitive health in older adults by combating Alzheimer’s and dementia. Dance also aids weight management, reduces back pain, improves sleep quality, enhances posture, and boosts cognitive function and creativity in both children and adults.

“Dance goes beyond weight loss, offering numerous advantages for overall well-being,” Obafunwa added.
