The numerous health reforms embarked upon by the administration of President Bola Tinubu since he assumed office almost two years ago has created positive results at the Federal College of Medical Laboratory Science Technology (FCMLST), Jos.

Provost of the College, Professor Sunday Etukudoh, who made the observation after taking a team of National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) on an inspection tour of facilities at the college for resource verification, said the exercise was preparatory to the establishment of new programs in the institution.

Etukudoh added that the president has committed his administration to concrete actions and policies that would drive positive change in healthcare delivery in the country, and that the College was leveraging this to produce the best laboratory scientists for hospitals across the globe.

He said that the renewed hope agenda of President Tinubu in the health sector has been successful through the appointment of scholarly Nigerians with the heart and thought of Nigerians in mind at helm of affairs.

Etukudoh said: “When you look at the background of Professor Mohamed Ali Pate, Dr. Tunji Alausa, and even the Permanent Secretary, Kacholom Shanti Daju, you’ll see that the Ministry of Health is blessed due to the innovative and excellent choice of personnel.

“So, what we are able to achieve here transcends from the top. We are encouraged, motivated, and given the tools to succeed. That is why we are driving this particular cadre to provide the human resource for health for Nigerians,”

Speaking earlier, Deputy Director of the Institution’s Division of NBTE, Dr. Kubra Jauro, said that they had gone round the college and were satisfied with facilities it parades.

His words: “We have toured the facilities, especially the medical laboratory facilities, and we are excited to say that what we saw exceeds our minimum requirements for establishing the programs.

“While I cannot pre-empt the final recommendations as our report will be determined by the board, we are satisfied with what we have seen on ground so far as the college has adequate facilities for the programs.”

The college becomes the pioneering institution to offer a National Diploma in Medical Laboratory Science, and seeks accreditations in five areas of discipline; Epidemiology and Disease Control, Public Health Technology, Environmental Health Technology, Medical Laboratory Technology, and Institutional Administration.
