The federal government has inaugurated the National Automotive Design and Development Council (NADDC) newly established and equipped Automotive Training and CNG Conversion Centre in Kano State, to mark a significant advancement in Nigeria’s automotive sector.
While performing the official inauguration rite of the facility, the Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment (FMITI), Dr. Doris Uzoka-Anite, reiterated the federal government’s commitment to job creation through effective use of national resources, describing the CNG Conversion Centre as one of the initiatives of the FMITI and NADDC designed to key into the Presidential CNG initiative of the federal government and ensure successful implementation of the programme.
She applauded the NADDC helmsman and his entire team for making the vision a reality, while congratulating the people of Kano State for being part of the first beneficiaries of the NADDC CNG Conversion Centres.
Dr. Uzoka-Anite also encouraged all Nigerians to embrace the new technology for more education and employment.
Speaking at the ceremony, the NADDC Director-General, Joseph Osanipin, who welcomed the minister and other industry players to the event, emphasized the importance of investing in automotive skills to combat poverty and foster local development.
He stated: “The council is dedicated to enhancing local capacity and sustainability within the industry, having established 21 training facilities across the country, with 15 fully equipped. The Kano Centre will focus on skill development and will soon commence training in Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) conversion, aiming to empower the youth and support the community.” Other dignitaries at the event included the Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Nura Abba Rimi; the representatives and members of the Nigeria Automotive Technicians Association (NATA), MotorMechs and Technicians Association of Nigeria (MOMTAN) and others.
The newly equipped auto training and CNG conversion centre, according to him, “will empower technicians and mechatronics specialists, enabling them to convert existing petrol and diesel vehicles to gas-powered models.
“This development does not only meet the growing demand for gas- powered vehicles but also equip local technicians with essential skills, to ensure proper maintenance and repair of such vehicles.”
