The Nasarawa State Governor, Abdullahi Sule, yesterday commenced the harvest of the state government rice farm cultivated on a 10,000 hectares of land at Jangwa in Awe Local Government Area of the state.

The Nasarawa State Government had at the beginning of this year’s cropping season cultivated rice on about 10,000 hectares of land at Jangwa as part of the state government’s initiatives to boost food security in the country.

Consequently, the governor was yesterday in Jangwa where he personally observed three combined harvesters carrying out the harvest processes on the farm marking the end of the first season.

Speaking to journalists shortly after commencing the harvest of the 10,000 hectares Jangwa Rice Farm, Governor Sule pointed out that rice cultivation on the expanse of land would be two seasons in every calendar year which means at every six months interval, there would be harvest from the farm.

He stated that there would be additional harvesters that would be brought to the farm to fast-track timely completion of the harvest processes in addition to the three currently working on the farm since the commencement of harvest on October 23, 2024.

Sule, therefore, maintained that: “If in two days, the three combined harvesters could only cover 14 hectares of land, then, it has become expedient to bring in two or more combined harvesters on the farm.”

He continued “Every time you speak of Nasarawa, people will say we are a state of solid minerals and agriculture. But in reality, the government would have to take the leadership to ensure the direction of this agriculture.

“That is the reason why we decided that in order to be part of this food security of the renewed hope agenda of the president, Nasarawa State Government should be able to set example,” he state.
