The National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) has cautioned members of the union against partisanship, adding that NURTW is a labour union and not a political party.
Speaking in Ilorin, Kwara state capital on Friday, the former Deputy National Secretary of the union, Alhaji Moshood Olayiwola Ajao, stated that the NURTW was a registered trade union and will not be part of any political parties in the country.
Ajao who is also the Chairman, South West Elders Forum of the NURTW, stated that, “the union is only committed to the welfare of the people and would not indulge in any act that may hinder the good image of the union”.
The NURTW leader who faulted the recent comment of one of the leaders of the union in Osun state Mr. Kazeem Oyewale over the 2026 election, stated that the union leader, Mr. Oyewale, had no locus standi of the union to make such statement on behalf of the union.
He maintained that, “NURTW is a registered trade union and does not belong to any political party and has no mandate to vote out Governor Adeleke in 2026”.
Ajao added that, “the NURTW record showed that Mr. Oyewale is a former Oroki Branch Chairman and was at no time appointed or elected state officer of NURTW.”
He urged members of the union in the state to disregard the statement of Oyewale and continue to peacefully go about their normal duties.
Alhaji Ajao also appealed to Osun State governor to grant the request of the National Administrative Council (NDC) of the union seeking audience with him to strengthen the existing relationship and synergy between the union and Osun State Government.
