The Kpakpando Foundation, a leading non-governmental organisation, will on Wednesday, October 30, 2024, mark its 19th anniversary with a grand event themed “Disability Inclusion in Nation Building.”
Founded by Distinguished Senator Osita Izunaso in 2006, the foundation has transformed the lives of over 20,000 persons with disabilities.
The celebration promises to be unforgettable, featuring a medical outreach and distribution of essential aids such as motorised and manual wheelchairs, crutches, power-generating machines, housing, and vehicular donations. Scholarship awards, advocacy, and business training will also be provided to empower persons with disabilities.
Governor Hope Uzodinma, Governor Mai Mala Buni of Yobe State, Minister for Sports Senator John Eno, and other dignitaries are expected to grace the occasion.
Since its inception, the Kpakpando Foundation has made significant strides in promoting disability inclusion. With over 1,000 persons benefiting from its tertiary and secondary scholarship schemes, the foundation has trained and equipped over 3,000 entrepreneurs with disabilities. Its partnership with organisations such as the Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency of Nigeria (SMEDAN), the National Directorate of Employment (NDE), and the Federal Ministry of Labour and Employment has facilitated various trainings in entrepreneurship and skills for persons with disabilities.
The foundation’s tireless advocacy played a pivotal role in establishing the National Commission for Persons with Disability. Its dedication has earned numerous national and international awards, including the prestigious Presidential Award, National Productivity Order of Merit Award, and President’s Volunteer Service Awards from Presidents Donald Trump and Joe Biden.
Kpakpando Foundation’s long-term vision includes establishing a permanent Health Insurance Scheme and School for Persons with Disabilities. As it celebrates 19 years of service, the foundation remains committed to creating an inclusive society where persons with disabilities can thrive.
