The Association of Industrial Hygienists in Lagos, Nigeria (AIHN), a respected organization of occupational health and safety practitioners, has concluded plans to hold its 3rd Annual Professional Conference from November 7-9th, 2024, in Port Harcourt, the capital of Rivers State.

This year’s conference is accredited for Continuing Professional Development (CPD) and aims to address a diverse range of current and emerging health risks affecting the workforce in Nigeria.

According to the Association, key themes will include sustainable practices, regulatory compliance, worker well-being, and collaborative efforts within the industry.

Additionally, the conference will offer courses designed to provide valuable learning outcomes for occupational health and safety professionals, with Continuing Education Units (CEUs) accredited by the CPD Group in the United Kingdom.

The keynote speakers include, Dr. Nsikak-Abasi Ntia with over 2 decades of experience as a medical practitioner, and the 2024 – 2025 President of the American Industrial Hygiene Association (AIHN), Nicole Green, CIH.

Speaking, the President of the Association, Ifeyinwa Anya, CIH, said: ‘’There would be “The President’s Panel” featuring experienced people from Government Regulators, and Leaders of Industries in manufacturing and energy sectors.

‘’Our Partners are the International Occupational Hygiene Association (IOHA), the Occupational Hygiene Training Association (OHTA), and the American Industrial Hygiene Association (AIHA).’’

Similarly, Gloria Ayodeji-Fapohunda CMT, the LOC Chairperson, stated that the conference will be dedicated to providing expertise, guidance, and information on effectively managing workplace health hazards across Nigeria.

‘’The conference will conclude with a corporate social responsibility (CSR) session, which includes a site visit to the Welders Association in the Rumuepirikom and Rumuolumeuni areas of Port Harcourt.

‘’The primary objectives of this CSR initiative are to educate welders about health hazards associated with welding and measures to mitigate exposure risks and to provide awareness training on the proper use and maintenance of personal protective equipment (PPE) as well as encourage welders to adopt healthy lifestyle habits and schedule regular health check-ups,’’ Ayodeji-Fapohunda said.

Established in 2019 as the Nigeria Oil & Gas Industrial Hygiene Forum, AIHN has evolved into an umbrella body representing industrial hygienists who offer services to various industries, organizations, and institutions nationwide.
