APC Sweeps Cross River, Nasarawa LG Polls

The ruling All Progressive Congress in Cross River State has won all the 18 Chairmanship positions, and 196 councillorship seats in the local government councils election conducted on Saturday throughout the state.

Similarly, the party  won all the 13 local government chairmanship seats and 140 councillorship seats, out of the 147 Council Wards of the Nasarawa state  on Saturday.

The  Cross River  election results were officially announced  yesterday by the Chairman of the State Independent Electoral Commission (CROSIEC)  Dr. Ekong Bocco.

Following the announcement, all the elected chairmen were presented with certificates of return.

Among the 18 elected local government council leaders, are three women.

In his address to the newly elected council heads, the CROSIEC Chairman congratulated them  and emphasised the importance of fulfilling campaign promises and the responsibilities associated with local government councils in democratic governance.

During the ceremony to present certificates of return to the elected chairmen, the Chief of Staff to the Governor, Hon.Emmanuel Ironbar, highlighted the crucial tasks awaiting the newly elected officials, including addressing the needs of their constituents, promoting transparency, and fulfilling their electoral commitments in line with the People First Mantra championed by the State Governor, Senator Prince Bassey Edet Otu.

He said the success in the local government polls paves the way for the State government to continue showcasing effective governance and making a positive impact on the lives of the people in Cross River State.

Meanwhile,  the APC  won all the 13 Local Government chairmanship seats and 140 councillorship seats, out of the 147 Council Wards of the state, during the Saturday November 2, 2024 Nasarawa State Local Governments Elections.

Chairman of the Nasarawa State Independent Electoral Commission (NASIEC), Ayuba Wandai Usman, announced the results  in Lafia yesterday.

According to him, APC won the Local Governments with the following votes: Lafia (217573), Doma (70,545), Keana (35094), Awe (59,206), Obi (93,486), Keffi (74,419), Kokona (53057), Akwanga (82075), Toto (43792), Karu (146450), Wamba (39377), Nasarawa (96,358) and Nasarawa-Eggon (94,497).

He said the exercise was entirely peaceful, expressing profound appreciation to the voting public for unwavering resolve towards entrenching democracy at the grassroots level.

He added that the election reflected the accessibility and cooperation of all stakeholders to promote political participation in the state.

The NASIEC chairman continued that the turnout was massive despite a spate of voter apathy which he attributed to communal consensus.

He said: “The participation of 14 political parties in the electoral process underscored the confidence of the parties in the election. The use of technology had further made the process seamless and efficient.

“The success of the election was due to the robust awareness campaign carried out by the commission, the cooperation of the Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC) and the relentless determination of security agencies to maintain peace and public order”.

Zenith Labour Party (ZLP) won two councillorship seats in Doma, while the Social Democratic Party (SDP) secured four councillorship seats in Nasarawa-Eggon and one councillorship seat in Keffi local government.
