The Wife of the Lagos State Governor, Dr Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, has been appointed as the Matron of The Learning Innovation Academy (TLIA)- a purpose built multimedia studio for neuro divergent and neuro typical Individuals.

Speaking at the opening of the inclusive academy recently, in Lagos, Sanwo-Olu, described TLIA as a beacon of possibility for twice exceptional individuals.

According to her, “for over two decades, this academy has served our community through its extraordinary mission of nurturing the unique talents of young adults with distinct cognitive and behavioural needs, the ‘Twice Exceptional’ individuals. The Learning Innovation Academy has become a beacon of possibility, where neurodivergent and neurotypical students work side by side, creating a vibrant and inclusive community in fields such as animation, digital technology, music, visual arts, and voice acting.

“Today’s theme, “Inclusion and Innovation: Unlocking Opportunities for All,” captures the essence of what this Academy stands for. This Academy is not just about learning skills; it is about opening doors that have long been closed to many in our society. It is about creating opportunities for everyone, regardless of neurological differences, to explore, express, and realize their full potential. Inclusion and innovation must be the foundations on which our society continues to build, and TLIA is setting an inspiring example.”

She emphasised that the state government is deeply committed to fostering inclusive education and supporting the exceptional talents of our youth.

“Through various state-led initiatives, we continue to ensure that our young people—especially those with unique talents and needs—are equipped to contribute meaningfully to society. TLIA exemplifies the transformative impact we strive for: changing lives and uplifting communities through education, inclusion, and innovation,” she stated.

Earlier, Executive Director, TLIA, Mrs. Bolanle Adewole, who announced the appointment of Sanwo-Olu as the matron, said the place is designed for hands-on-learning for neuro divergent and neuro typical Individuals, adding that appointment was due to her immense support to the academy over the years and her efforts towards inclusive education in the state.

On the academy, she said the mission was to unleash the power of youthful genius of people with additional skills.

Music Director and songwriter, Cobhams Asuquo, challenged parents to have faith in their children just like her mum did while he was escaping to church to practise how to play organ and piano.

“So one of the things I believe that talent requires in order for it to become active is faith and I say this because of my mother. I grew up as a 9, 10-year-old kid trying to play the piano and hearing my mother say, I know you will become something great in life. I think about it those days,“ he said.
