SQI College of ICT Hosts Osogbo’s 1st Reboot Tech Conference

On November 7th, 2024, the Reboot Tech Conference (RTC) took center stage at the SQI College of ICT in Ogo Oluwa, Osogbo, bringing together technology leaders, industry experts, and enthusiastic participants in a groundbreaking event for the region.

One of the conference’s key highlights was an address on behalf of Dr. Aminu Maida, CEO of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), who was represented at the event. The representative underscored the NCC’s ongoing dedication to fostering innovation within the telecommunications sector. The address covered initiatives such as grants, hackathons, talent development programs, and startup support, while emphasizing the recent global recognition of a Nigerian startup in Saudi Arabia that secured substantial grants, exemplifying the nation’s tech capabilities.

Adeyemi C. Aderinto, CEO of SQI College of ICT, inspired the audience by recounting the journey of the institution since its inception in 2008 with a bold vision to position Nigeria—and ultimately Africa—on the global technology map. This gave rise to the school motto: “Making Africa a Tech Continent, One Mind at a Time.” Initially focused on building world-class software products, SQI quickly recognized the need for an educational system to nurture the next generation of tech talents. His commitment to making technology education accessible and impactful was evident in his passionate address.

Ashley Immanuel, COO of Semicolon, shared valuable insights tailored specifically to local startups in Osun State, advising them on how to leverage Semicolon’s resources for accelerated growth and development. Her talk resonated deeply with emerging entrepreneurs eager to make their mark on the tech industry.

In a powerful session dedicated to “Empowering Women in Tech,” leaders discussed strategies for bridging the gender gap in the technology sector. This segment of the conference resonated with many, as it highlighted the critical importance of inclusive practices to shape a more diverse tech industry.
