Super Eagles Qualify for AFCON 2025

Even before filing out against Benin Republic in their Match-day 5 clash on Thursday, Nigeria’s Super Eagles qualified for the 2025 AFCON in Morocco after home team Rwanda fell 1-0 to Libya in Kigali.

Irrespective of the result of the Benin Republic versus Nigeria in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire and the last match against Rwanda in Uyo on Monday, the Super Eagles with their 10 points already guaranteed them a place in the tournament to be hosted by Morocco from 21st December 2025 to 18th January 2026.

After a scoreless first half at the Amahoro Stadium in Kigali, substitute Fahd Saad Mohamed was the late match winner when he fired home in the 84th minute to earn the Mediterranean Knights of Libya all three points.

This shock home loss means Rwanda now have five points from five matches and even if they beat the Super Eagles Monday in Uyo, they will not finish higher than the three-time African champions with their eight points.

Only Benin Republic can overtake the Super Eagles if they win this Thursday night game with Nigeria. They were leading the match 1-0 at half time last night. They also need to win against Libya on Monday to take their total to 12 points.

Libya remain bottom of the Group D standings on four points. They will welcome Benin in their last group game on Monday.
