The Director of Programmes and Coordination of Lagos State Employment Trust Fund (LSETF), Oyindamola Egbeyemi, has advised operators of Nano and small enterprises to use packaging and marketing to launch their products into local and international markets.

This advice was given  at the launch of the Small Scale Enterprises Lab (SSE-Lab) and Manufacturing Business Accelerator’s (MBA) Business Showers with the theme: ‘From Vision to Venture: Unleashing Entrepreneurial Potential’.

Egbeyemi, who was the guest speaker at the launch said: “Even if your product is the best technically speaking, if you do not package it well, and protect your brand they might not be visible. You need to focus on your market. You need to focus on how your customers perceive your brand in order to be successful.”

In her welcome address, the Founder of SSE-Lab, Mrs. ‘Desola Jimmy-Eboma, said that mastering branding and packaging are necessary in navigating complex products’ distribution channels.

Jimmy-Eboma said: “Venturing into this business firsthand exposed me to the myriad challenges faced by small-scale manufacturers in Nigeria—from mastering branding and packaging to navigating complex distribution channels.

“This realisation ignited a deep passion within me to share my knowledge and experiences with other passionate individuals seeking to turn their innovative ideas into viable products channels.”

She added that “Today, we are planting the seeds of our shared future by supporting small businesses and MSMEs, investing in a sustainable legacy for Nigeria’s economy. Here, we are building success not just through profits but through the positive impact we can have on our communities. Today’s showcase is a testament to that potential to drive real, meaningful change.”

The Senior Special Assistant to Governor on Commerce, Cooperatives, Trade and Investment, Mrs. Hauwa Adeeyo,  described the SSE Lab and MBA Business Showers as forward-thinking initiatives that are aimed at empowering the Micro, Small, and Medium-sized Enterprises (MSMEs).

Adeeyo said: “I am particularly thrilled to represent the Lagos State Government and to witness first-hand the pioneering spirit of innovation and resilience on display by our entrepreneurs.

“The SSE-Lab’s mission aligns closely with Lagos State Government’s objectives to nurture a culture of entrepreneurship by providing our MSMEs with the resources, mentorship, and networks they need to succeed in an increasingly competitive world.

“We are here to support and encourage the men and women who have dared to innovate, who have undergone rigorous incubation and training, and who today stand ready to showcase their market-ready products. These individuals are the lifeblood of Lagos’ economy, and their success reflects on all of us.”

Speaking during the panel discussion, the Founder and Creative Director of Dexy Creation, Adaeze Onu, advised participants in the MAB Cohort 1, to tell their stories clearly on online channels in such a manner that would communicate their brands to Nigerian and international consumers.

She said that e-commerce platforms are important in moving their products into the international market.

The Founder of Orekelewa Organics, Ms. Yinka Osifeso, who was also a panelist, said that “creating your niche does not mean that you are going to be complex. Make your product simple and collaborate with people.”
