Yinka Kolawole in Osogbo
The leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State and former state Governor, Gboyega Oyetola, has tasked the chieftains and members of the party to engage in the extension of the membership scope of the party by way of bringing back some of the former members of the party who have repented and genuinely showing willingness backed with action to identify with the ideal of the party.
Oyetola, who is the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, made this remark at the weekend while hosting the stakeholders of the party at Tinubu/Shettima Campaign Office in Osogbo, Osun State, commending the senatorial leaders of the party for sustaining the tempo of the party.
The minister, however, enjoined the stakeholders of the party at all its levels to increase their commitment to the party by the way of constant meetings as there could not be said to be partisan politics without regular meetings.
The venue of the meeting became a rendezvous for the stakeholders to exchange pleasantries and banters as it was an admixture of fun and a serious political session where the senatorial leaders and some of the other chieftains of the party took their turns to give a detailed report on the state of the party in their respective constituencies.
Former Governor Oyetola stated at the meeting that it was necessary for all the stakeholders of the party to prepare very well for the forthcoming local government council elections in the state as the popularity of the party in the state is not in doubt.
The minister said: “Let me thank everyone of you for your various contributions in order to move our party forward despite the fact that we are finding ourselves on the lane of the opposition.
“Available information are pointing to the fact that the popularity of our party remains constant in Osun State which is the reason I am imploring us to prepare adequately for all the future elections in the state, especially the local government council elections.
“It is necessary for the stakeholders of our party who have been holding steady meetings not to waiver while those who have not been holding constant meetings should resume theirs as there cannot be said to be a party without meetings.
“Make it a point of duty to reach out to some of our lost sheep with a view to bringing them back into our fold as politics is a game of numbers.
“There are indications that our party remains the party to beat in Osun State because its popularity is not in doubt which is the more reason all the members and chieftains of our party should put in their maximum efforts to win all the future elections in the state.”
The meeting attracted several eminent leaders of the party from all the three senatorial zones in the state, the state executive officers of the party led by the state Chairman, Sooko Tajudeen Lawal, all the members of Agba Osun led by their Chairman, Sola Akinwumi, who also doubles as former Secretary to the State Government (SSG); former appointed and elected political functionaries.
