CIC Class of ’81 Partners ENIFF to Empower Southeast Youth in Filmmaking

The College of the  Immaculate Conception (CIC) Enugu Alumni, Class of 1981 , has taken a significant step to build capacity among Southeast youth through a strategic partnership with the Eastern Nigeria International Film Festival (ENIFF) and its parent body, the Eastern Nigeria Film and Arts Initiative (ENFAI).

Since its inception, ENIFF, now in its 5th edition, has enjoyed the support of CIC alumni, and this new collaboration aims to further enrich aspiring filmmakers in the region with advanced skills in smartphone filmmaking, including sound design, color grading, and set design.

Chris Odili, President of CIC Class of ’81, Co-founder of ENIFF, and a social innovator, highlighted the need to expand the creative industry’s focus beyond traditional roles. “There’s a vast, untapped potential in fields like sound design, color grading, and set design,” Chris Odili shared. He stressed that these specialized aspects are essential to creating high-quality films and developing a diverse talent pool to drive Nigeria’s creative economy forward.

With workshops led by ENFAI’s skilled instructors, this partnership will offer young creatives the opportunity to tell authentic stories while enhancing technical skills, fostering creativity, and developing critical thinking in storytelling. Chris Odili expressed excitement about the collaboration’s impact, stating, “We are happy to work with ENFAI and ENIFF in empowering our youth to highlight their heritage and prepare for global opportunities in the film industry.”

This partnership also underscores CIC’s dedication to educational advancement and youth empowerment, with ENIFF being supported this year by prominent partners, including the British Council and the European Union. Together the Record Breaking  CIC Class of ’81 and ENIFF are setting a foundation for young Nigerian storytellers to thrive in an increasingly digital and storytelling-driven world.
