The Federal Government is set to partner with the Moroccan Ministry of Labour to advance vocational training, skills development export, social security and cooperative development both in formal and informal sector of the country’s economy.
The Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Nkeiruka Onyejeocha, disclosed this in Abuja Tuesday.
She spoke after a meeting with the Moroccan Ambassador to Nigeria, Maho Ou Ali Tagma, and the country’s Deputy Head of Mission, Marouan Abousif, in her office
She said the partnership was aimed at driving economic growth, social welfare and human capital development in Nigeria.
The key objectives of the initiative, according to her, included improving productivity, creating jobs, occupational safety and generating foreign exchange earnings through skilled workforce export.
The minister noted that the meeting was a build-up on her previous meeting in Switzerland with Morocco’s Head of Delegation at ILO, on a strategic partnership between Nigeria’s Ministry of Labour and its Morocco’s counterpart.
She said the partnership would enhance skills development and certification to boosting workforce efficiency and productivity.
Onyejeocha said: “The partnership would not only lead to job creation and foreign exchange earnings through exporting skilled workers, but would also promote a capacity-building approach that equips Nigerians with skills necessary for the global market.
“Human capital development is another crucial objective. Upskilling and reskilling the workforce enables economic growth and fosters cooperative development and entrepreneurship.
“Aligning labour standards with global best practices enhances international competitiveness. This approach would ensure that Nigeria remains an attractive destination for investment and talented.
“We aim to leverage Morocco’s expertise in capacity building, particularly vocational training to enhance skills development, where the country has done excellently well. All the key areas align with the mandate of the ministry.”
She explained that: “Social benefits are also going to be priority, with programmes focused on implementing social security and cooperative development for formal and informal sectors.
“Ensuring occupational safety and health standards protect workers, while counselling services and fair labour practices to promote employee welfare,” she added.
