Senator representing Niger East senatorial district, Mohammed Sani Musa, has thrown his weight behind the decision of the Minister of Works Engineer David Umahi to revoke the 10 year old Lambatta- Suleja road contract in Niger state.
The decision to revoke the contract for non performance by the contractor handling the project according to Senator Sani Musa was taken at a stakeholders meeting held in the Ministers office last weekend.
In a statement made available to newsmen in Minna Senator Musa appreciated the Minister for reprimanding some other contractors for their lack of seriousness in the execution of road contracts awarded to their companies.
Musa declared: “The good people of Niger State are delighted to note that the Minister has directed the revocation, redesigning and re-awarding of the Dualization of Suleja-Lambatta-Minna (Phase 1 & 2) and has given marching order to the contractor handling the Reconstruction of Bida – Lapai – Lambatta road to return to site and to start work from the Bida – Lapai axis”.
He added that the state is impressed by the commitment of the Minister to also source for more funds for the Rehabilitation of Mokwa – Makera – Tegina road project in the
2025 budget.
Added to this is the decision of the Minister to reprimand officials of the Ministry and send them to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission EFCC along with the contractors for compromising their positions by not giving proper report on the status of the road projects and doing due diligence.
According to Sani Musa who is the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Finance the decisions taken by the Minister “will bring smiles to the faces of the people of Niger state and Nigerians traveling on this road”.
Sani Musa described the positions taken by the Minister as “the hallmark of the commitment and dedication to duty, which marks Engineer David Umahi as a round peg in a round hole.” He also commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for appointing him as Minister of Works.
The Senator equally commended what he described as “the profound sense of responsibility and commitment of the
workaholic ‘farmer-governor’ of Niger State, Hon. Muhammad Umar Bago” who he said was giving Niger state a new look.
